Manuel Pulgar-Vidal is the current Minister of State for Environment and President of the Conference of the Parties (COP20), Peru as he is a lawyer with 27 years of experience in the fields of environmental law and policy until 2011. In 2011, he was named Minister of State for Environment as a position he occupies in addition to being President of the COP20, but before that in 1986, he founded the Peruvian Society for Environmental Law which is one of the most recognized organizations of environmental law in the region as he served as Executive Director there for 20 years. Manual Pulgar-Vidal has participated in the development of environmental policy frameworks throughout his career in many countries of the region as an adviser to decision-makers and also many project initiatives. In addition, he has also managed some organizations and in exchange is a recognized leader in environmental management issues, environmental media, and political issues within many countries as he is also an author of various papers regarding his specialty. Among such papers include many articles in various Environmental Magazines where he is also a professor and lecturer in environmental law, environmental management, and natural leaders. As Minister, his role keeps him responsible for proposing and defining the environmental policies of the country of Peru, including biodiversity and climate change policies as he is also in charge of implementing the environmental legislation of the country and its enforcement policies. His former positions include Executive Director, Peruvian Society for Environmental Law; President, Inter-American Association for Environmental Defense; President, Permanent Seminar on Agricultural Research; Director, National Fund for Natural Areas Protected by the State, PROFONANPE; and Alliance Director, Tropical Andes. As of now, Mr. Manuel Pulgar-Vidal continues to reign in his position as Minister for the Peruvian environment and still works to solve climate change.
