Charango
The charango is a ten string lute that originated in South America. The back of the instrument is fashioned from an armadillo. When the Spaniards came to South America, the brought the vihuela. Many people liked the vihuela, but lacked the ability to shape the wood in that manner. However, armadillo shells were a convenient resource that was available to them. The charango was then created. It was beneficial for music, but horrible for the armadillos. But it had the opportunity to make music after its death. Legend says that the armadillo has to go to a conservatory for five years to study to become a charango.
